Washington Training Academy - West Side Campus


The Washington Training Academy - West Side Campus (WTA) is one of the Wing training academies offering Emergency Services, Aircrew, Communication, Professional Development Training, Aerospace Education and Cadet development as an effective program to ensure positive growth. Training opportunities are nearly endless with a cooperative and friendly staff that will push you to your limits to allow you to learn new material and concepts.

Tentative Schedule for Fall WTA 2009 - 2010
Based at Camp Murray, WTA has meetings every 3rd weekend of the month.

February WTA Announcement
20-21 February at Camp Murray

We have no lodging this month at Camp Murray so sign in will be on SATURDAY morning at 0700 in Building 101
Parents should pick up their cadets on Sunday at 1430 at the same location. 
Members will need to bring sleeping bags and pads and plan to sleep on the floor. 
Basic cost for the weekend is $20.00.

 

Scheduled Classes


Reminder!!: You must have your commanders approval to attend WTA or any Wing event. They must sign your WWF23 or you will not be allowed to participate.

Ground Team Training – Instructor TBD
This entry level course will provide the students with all basics necessary to begin training as a GT member. Prerequisites are GES, ICS 100 and 700.

Cadet Competition Class/Preparation – SM Glissen
This class will cover the basics needed to be competitive at the Wing Cadet Competition on 27 Feb.  Come and get a good start on how to study, practice, and get your uniform prepared for competition.  This class is Sat and Sunday.   

Cadet Officer’s Course – C/Capt Brandon
This course will expand the knowledge of cadet officers. 

DFAC Intermediate – SM Stanley
This class focuses on supervisory skills and small team management in addition to cooking skills.   
 
Basic Communication Users Training– 1Lt Ross
BCUT training is for anyone who will use a radio at any CAP activity.  It is the first step in radio communications.  This course is approximately 3 hours long (from 0800-1100 on Saturday morning). 

Mission Staff Assistant - Lt Col Maxwell
MSA training will immediately follow the BCUT class.  This course will begin the training needed for a member to sign in at a mission base and be useful.  It is the first step in many ES specialties.  It is also one of the most needed positions at Mission Bases and will be critical for the wing when the Air Force comes to evaluate us in June.   Class time is approximately 6 hours long with a Practice Mission on Sunday morning. 

Mission Basic Aircrew School – Part II, Observer Training -   Maj Porterfield
Pre-requisites:  Qualified Scanners
This course teaches all the basics of aerial observer including communication, navigation, review of scanning techniques, assisting pilots, and more.  Class size is limited to 12 students.  Bring air charts (not necessary to be current), E6B, plotter, and willingness to learn.  Early registration is required as there is a workbook that will be emailed back and must be completed before class.
