Thank you to everyone who attended Alaska Airlines Aviation Day on 6 May!

This was our third year sending Civil Air Patrol cadets, and our first year participating as exhibitors! Through our strengthened partnership with Alaska Airlines, we were able to host a membership booth alongside aviation colleges with Civil Air Patrol mission pilots giving tours of one of the Wing's Cessna aircraft.

Additionally, a cadet officer from Paine Field Composite Squadron was selected to work individually with an Alaska Airlines Captain and a professional public relations firm to develop news reports on the event. The Washington Wing public affairs team also spent the day promoting the event alongside Alaska Airlines with live social media updates. Several of our feed posts were even featured on the Alaska Airlines Twitter feed!

There were more than 1,200 local middle and high school students in attendance!

Here’s a glimpse of our day on the web!

Frank G. Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award

A belated honor as Washington Wing Commander Colonel Jim Furlong presents the 2015 Washington Wing Frank G. Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award to First Officer Allen Cassino of Alaska Airlines, for all of his work in establishing and operating Alaska Airlines Aviation Day. This annual event is held at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) and combines Civil Air Patrol and AFJROTC Cadets, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, high school and college students, and the U.S. Navy, local law enforcement aviation, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, and numerous regional aviation education and training partners into one regional aviation orientation.

Each year, over 1,200 young people see aircraft static displays, go on cockpit tours and aircraft workaround tours, attend career broadening seminars and get to fly Boeing flight simulators and go through aircraft evacuation drills. The event employs hundreds of incredible
Alaska Airlines employees who volunteer their time and it grows larger every year. There is now a parallel Alaska Aviation Day at Portland International Airport, as well.

Washington Wing is proud to be a participant in
Alaska Airlines Aviation Day, and we are happy to finally present this long overdue award to the event's founder, FO Allen Cassino. Congratulations on a job well done.

Extra special thanks to everyone who participated in this event as an ambassador to our program!
