Washington Wing Patch Blank Insignia Be sure to check out the US Air Force Historical Research Agency's Guide to Air Force Heraldry before setting out to make a unit emblem. Chapter 2 gives Air Force guidelines for patch creation. Note that Civil Air Patrol does not share the Air Force's strict rules about emblem size or shape, but all emblems must be approved by the Wing Commander and forwarded to the National Headquarters Historian on completion.
