  • 2019-0-GSAR Academy Registration Open (Distributed via email on 26-Mar-19) REGISTRATION IS NOW OPENThis training activity is for cadets and senior officers and will be conducted on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) property near Tacoma, Washington. It will be an opportunity to experience a realistic Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) training environment that combines teamwork and individual skills to become proficient in the ground team mission. GSAR Academy - Clarification of Requirements
Due to some confusion, we have revised our webpage

 


Civil Air Patrol's Washington Wing Ground Search and Rescue Academy is for cadets and senior officers and will be conducted on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) property near Tacoma, Washington. 


To attend as a Basic student and train for the Ground Team Member 3 rating all you need is: 


  1. A current CAP membership card. 
  2. A CAPF 101 with GES 3. 
  3. The required equipment for the Academy 
  4. A desire to learn, practice, and have fun!

How to complete GSAR Academy Training Prerequisites

 

Civil Air Patrol's Washington Wing Ground Search and Rescue Academy is for cadets and senior officers and will be conducted on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) property near Tacoma, Washington. 


Over the next few weeks, you will continue to receive updates to assist you with your application and academy preparation.


Take note!


  • You may apply on a tentative basis if you do not have all your Prerequisites by the initial deadline (30-Apr-19). 
  • Applicants with all of their Prerequisites will be accepted immediately. 
  • After the initial deadline, remaining slots will be awarded on a first-come, first served basis.
  • We have a limit of 35 cadet students.   
  • Make sure to read the Registration and Requirements FAQs on our website.

Basic Course:
  • Prerequisites:   

Min. 14 years of age
Current CAPF 101 - with GES rating and trainee status for both GTM3 and UDF or better (Click the link to visit the Wing website's "How to get your 101 card" help page)  
CAP Radio Operators Authorization (ICUT cert is online - eServices + in-person eval) (Do you know your Squadron Communications Officer? If not, you need to find out who it is. They will help you with ICUT and they have the resources and expertise you need get through the ICUT qualifications.) 

ICS 100, 700 (Click the link to visit the Wing website's "How to get your 101 card" help page, which has links to both ICS 100 and 700 courses)    
☐ Current First Aid/CPR certification (uploaded to eServices) American Heart or Red Cross only
(no online certifications!)
Current CAP membership card on your person
All items on Required Equipment List.
(Make sure to start planning for this now!)
  Approval of Wing CC for those outside WA Wing – see CAPF 31

Advanced Course:
  • Prerequisites:   

  1. Same as listed in the basic course above + 

  2. In addition to the Basic Course prerequisites

Current qualification of GTM3 & ability to demonstrate knowledge

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN



This training activity is for cadets and senior officers and will be conducted on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) property near Tacoma, Washington. It will be an opportunity to experience a realistic Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) training environment that combines teamwork and individual skills to become proficient in the ground team mission. CAP personnel will conduct ground team member training for the purpose of acquiring and maintaining skills in accordance with CAP SQTRs on the topics of ground search and rescue, urban direction finding & WAC 118-04 Core Requirements.

 

You may apply on a tentative basis if you do not have all your Prerequisites by the deadline, however, applicants with all of their Prerequisites will be accepted immediately. Make sure to read the FAQs on our website.

Cadet attendance is limited to 35, so apply early! 

 

Early is on time. On time is late!
