Unit Commander’s Course

IF you are a Commander in a Unit or Group level, the completion of this course is a requirement of the Commander Specialty training track CAPP222

The Unit Commander’s Course (UCC.) This course provides expert advice and guidance on leadership, management and ethics in a standardized format for the training of current and potential squadron & group commanders. Squadron and group commanders are responsible for providing local leadership, administering programs, and managing the volunteer members in the field as they perform the critical missions of the Civil Air Patrol as well as provide support to the United States Air Force as the official Air Force Auxiliary.

The UCC discusses the traits and skills new unit and group commanders will need to develop to effectively lead and manage their units. Topics include command responsibility and accountability, recruiting and retention, safety, and other topics such as how to work with families, management, leadership, communication, and elements of successful units and leaders.

Each Student will be given a list of the Curriculum lessons that will be taught, and will be required to either PRINT his or her own copies (recommended) and/or will be allowed to use a laptop or tablet with the lessons downloaded to follow along during the instruction. Some lesson material you will need to print and bring with you.

The uniform will be Air Force Class B uniform (light blue shirt) or the Corporate uniform with the aviator shirt, or blue Polo Shirt with gray pants and black shoes (recommended.)

UCC is conducted in a classroom setting by instructors from various squadrons and the wing staff. Class will start at 0800 each day, break for lunch at noon, and dismiss in late afternoon. Overnight billeting, travel, and meals will be at each officer’s personal expense, and are not included in the course fee. Classroom break refreshments will be provided at the class, and is included in the course fee.

Advance registration is required. Please submit CAP Form 17 - Application for Senior Member Activities directly to WAWG HQ at the address below. Cutoff date for registration is 25 Sept 2015.

The registration fee is $10, which will include some materials & refreshments. The fee may be paid by personal check payable to CAP, or by squadron funds transfer to WAWG. For funds transfer, submit a Washington Wing Check Request, WWF31) to Wing Headquarters, (wawa@wawg.cap.gov) signed by the squadron commander and finance officer. Checks should be made out to “CAP” and write UCC-WA WG HQ registration in the memo line.
